Onze Vlinderkas barst van het leven, dus kom vooral een kijkje nemen bij onze vrolijk gekleurde vrienden als je in de Hortus bent.
Dit is de 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗲𝗺𝘃𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 (𝘋𝘳𝘺𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘢).

🌴Often called 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 (𝘉𝘪𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘵𝘶𝘮 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘶𝘮), this tiny tropical species looks like a miniature palm! It`s found in India and Nepal.
Similarly to the touch-me-not plant (𝘔𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢), its leaflets are able to move rapidly in response to touch. They fold inwards and sometimes droop.
This is called thigmonasty: a touch-triggered response caused by changes in water pressure in cells.

🌴Dit miniatuurpalmpje is 𝘉𝘪𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘵𝘶𝘮 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘶𝘮, een kleine tropische soort uit India en Nepal.
Net als het kruidje-roer-me-niet (𝘔𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢) reageren de blaadjes op aanraking. Ze vouwen zich naar binnen en hangen soms naar beneden.
Dit wordt thigmonastie genoemd: een reactie op aanraking die wordt veroorzaakt door veranderingen in de waterdruk in cellen.
💛Small and bright: the orange-yellow flower of the 𝘆𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 (𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘴𝘱. 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘶𝘴). This herald of spring is native to the Balkans and Turkey.
